Warehouse-expansion at Kärcher in Vienna

Kärcher

The Viennese location of the central warehouse for Central-Eastern Europe has recently been expanded by 30 per cent.Kärcher marked the opening of the extension with a great party and Metasyst joined in the celebrations.

Kärcher in Vienna and Metasyst enjoy a long-lasting partnership – METALAG has already managed the central warehouse for Central-Eastern Europe since 1998. In 1998 a simple version of METALAG was implemented at Kärcher in Vienna. This was followed by adjustments and optimizations, as well as further enhancements, always according to Kärcher’s requirements. The change to SAP took place in 2003 and METALAG linked to it.

METALAG manages the Kärcher warehouse with a continuous order optimization of goods and transportation. Transport orders are acknowledged of receipt and order picking is always paperless via a wireless scanner. The interface to SAP and to the transportation service provider enables continuous transport optimization. Integrated scales, as well as packaging optimization complete the profile.

Saving by investing

By investing in a new additional warehouse, cost reduction is also possible in stock-keeping, because until recently Kärcher was faced with high costs due to outsourcing to other warehouses.

Benefits for logistics

Mag. Hans Szivatz, general manager:

“Particularly in economically strained times it is important to make use of all possibilities of logistics.”

By avoiding outsourcing there are now fewer warehouse sites, goods are transported less and can be processed faster. The new build corresponds to an expansion of 30%.
